Time and weather, especially direct sunlight, inevitably deteriorate painted murals.
Occasionally, very rarely, murals are deliberately damaged, vandalized.

All these things are repairable. Repairs are often quite easily done.

One mural committee thought perhaps they had made a mistake locating a mural that honoured a federal politician at street level near a skateboard park,. Perhaps inevitably, the mural was found one morning literally defaced.

The surface was actually gouged and had to be refilled with plaster before it could be repainted.
The original painting was not our work and we had not seen it before but with a couple of photos of the subject we matched the style and colour of the original and the damage actually disappeared.

We tried to give our subject as benign an expression as possible in the hope of warding off future vandalism.
A few hours work restored the mural.
