...in southern Alberta, began a mural program in 2002 through it's Chamber of Commerce. The first mural, by artist Doug Driediger, celebrated the Town's location, at the edge of mountains and prairie, and its economic roots in ranching and grain farming.

When the committee selected a wall for mural #2, on its Saan Store across a street from the town park that dated from the town's origins before the turn of the century, we suggested a theme of the town at leisure, the community enjoying each other's company at a holiday celebration.

Work began on "A Claresholm Celebration" in late August...15 days later

the wall was peopled with over 150 figures in an image depicting the town meeting for a holiday celebration in 1912, visiting, picnicking, playing baseball, and gathering at the bandstand to hear live music by the town band. The distinctive line of the Porcupine Hills can be seen in the distance. click picture to do a virtual walk-by
