Keith Holmes
Born in Red Deer, Alberta, twice a scholarship student at Banff School of Fine Arts where he won the Brewster’s Award for Painting then graduated from the Alberta College of Art in 1969 with the Alberta Distillers Award for Painting. He worked as an artist for a major advertising agency on accounts such as the Calgary Stampede and Alberta Govt. Travel, then later as Supervisor of Presentation Graphics for the City of Calgary. During these years he was active in the Calgary visual arts community and maintained a painting studio, exhibiting his work locally and nationally. He has painted across Canada, Europe, Central and South America, in the inner city and the wilderness landscape. His urban subjects have been in major exhibitions across Canada including Vancouver’s Artropolis, Edmonton Art Gallery’s All Alberta, and London Art Gallery’s Young Contemporaries. He is a prodigious interpreter of the western Canadian landscape, particularly of his Galiano Island home. He is also becoming known for his intimate interiors and still lifes. His paintings have been acquired by many notable public and corporate collections. He has also painted over 30 murals in Alberta and BC.
